This post is alot like my TV Showcases on “ Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman” and “ ChalkZone“, because this show is targeted mostly for kids, but it’s also more designed for families to listen to together, so it’s really targeted for all ages. Now I have to actually make this blog post interesting to match it, huh? Well, I’ll try. What are your thoughts on this? Do you have a different recommendation? Let us know in the comments. Now that’s what I call an intriguing title. So that's my advice on where to start with AIO. ![]() Whatever direction you decide to take, if the kids really like the show then it's probably going to be the best value to join the club and have access to the full library of albums, collections, and member-exclusive episodes. But if you have a really tight budget then this is an option. ![]() This will give you a taste of the show, but is my least favorite way to experience it for the first time because you never know where the current broadcast schedule is going to drop you into the series. Lastly, you can always just check out the daily episodes that are being aired on the radio for free on the AIO website. ![]() It makes those episodes much richer, in my view. But I've changed my mind because I think experiencing the action, mystery, and intrigue of these sagas is so much more enjoyable with the context of these characters' backstories once you've really come to know them. There are also compilation albums of the major story arcs from the show and I used to (and many fans still do) recommend starting with one of those. There are several of these, but I think the best for this purpose would be either "Discovering Odyssey", a 9-episode set designed specifically to introduce the main characters and hit some show highlights, or the 12-episode collection called "The Fruit of the Spirit", which features a selection of episodes all around that specific theme from all different eras of the show. Now, if neither of those options sound appealing for some reason or other, then I think the third best option would be to purchase one of the compilation/collection albums which have a variety of episodes from across the show's history to get the kids acquainted with the show. There will still be some references that you might not understand, but I think for the most part, you'll be ok. It also comes right after the conclusion of a story arc and was a bit of a reset for the program overall, so I think it's a good place to begin. This volume introduced several new characters, including the two main families on the show currently, and was also the first regular series album to feature Andre Stojka as the voice of Mr. If that is the case, then I'd recommend starting with Album 51, "Take It From the Top". If you're not ready for the monthly commitment of the club membership, or if you think your kids might be able to relate better to episodes in current day with cellphones, text messaging, and social media references, then perhaps you might start at a later point in the series. This gives you all the context for character development and the big story arcs that come along. In my opinion, the very best way to begin is just join the AIO Club, which gives you total access to stream the entire catalogue of episodes, and start with Album 1 and go through the whole series chronologically. Even though the early stuff was done in the 80s it's still of very high quality considering the tools available back then. That's a huge question! With 35 years and nearly a thousand episodes it can be tough to know the best place to start! And there are many varied opinions on this in the fan community! First of all, I'd say that it's all good. And then I thought that perhaps it would be helpful to share this on the website for other parents who might have similar questions. I wrote up my response and sent it back to him. These questions came from Daniel Hancock, writer/director of End of Darkness, who said he was a casual listener of AIO as a kid and was familiar with the major characters but had never listened to the entire series. A parent recently approached me with the following questions about diving into the Adventures in Odyssey catalogue of episodes: "Where should my kids start listening? The very beginning or is the later stuff better? Also, what’s the best place to listen?" ![]() ![]() The sheer variety of battery types on the market can be surprising, but regardless of the power or lifespan of the one you choose, we will always have a way to ensure you’re getting the best price possible. The plates are always moving and interacting in a process called plate tectonics,” with those plates still shifting actively today. (It doesn't.) Today, we know that the continents rest on massive slabs of rock called tectonic plates. One of the elements lacking in the theory was the mechanism for how it works-why did the continents drift and what patterns did they follow? Wegener suggested that perhaps the rotation of the Earth caused the continents to shift towards and apart from each other. Wegener, trained as an astronomer, used biology, botany, and geology describe Pangaea and continental drift.” Even so, “Scientists did not accept Wegener’s theory of continental drift. Wegener was convinced that all of Earth’s continents were once part of an enormous, single landmass called Pangaea. He called this movement continental drift. In the early 20th century, Wegener published a paper explaining his theory that the continental landmasses were ‘drifting’ across the Earth, sometimes plowing through oceans and into each other. The theory of continental drift is most associated with the scientist Alfred Wegener. Today, the theory of continental drift has been replaced by the science of plate tectonics. Previous explanations included that the continents had been separated by the biblical Flood or that they were once joined by land bridges that had since sunk into the sea.”Īs the National Geographic Society Resource Library’s encyclopedic entry on continental drift explains it, “Continental drift describes one of the earliest ways geologists thought continents moved over time. He was not the first to notice the Africa-America pattern: it had been observed as early as the 16 th century, and discoveries in the 19 th century of the same types of fossils in both places had also attracted attention. ![]() In fact, he wondered if all of the Earth’s continents had once been linked. He had noticed that the coastlines of western Africa and eastern South America mirrored each other, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, and he wondered if they had once been joined together. But Wegener is best known today for his theory of continental drift, which is now accepted as fact, but which was considered outlandish when he first proposed it at the 1926 American Association of Petroleum Geologists conference in New York City.Īs Chris Woodford wrote in the 2019 Dorling Kindersley book Scientists Who Changed History, Wegener “began questioning why the continents are shaped the way they are. One such scientist was Alfred Wegener (1880-1930), who was born in Berlin and who obtained a doctorate in astronomy from the University of Berlin. The history of science is littered with true stories of individuals who made important discoveries, but whose discoveries were not accepted as legitimate during their lifetimes.
